Israel Cycling Academy’s Mihkel Räim won this year’s Tour of EstoniaEstonian Mihkel Räim won the final stage of Tour of Estonia 2019 (UCI 2.1), the Tartu GP (173). He also triumphed in the general classification.
This year’s Tour of Estonia was a three day event. The tour started with Thursday’s prologue in Tallinn (3,7 km), where Matthias Brändle from Israel Cycling Academy was the fastest. On Friday, the Tallinn-Tartu GP (187 km) took place where Brändle’s teammate Rudy Barbier was the quickest in a tight group finish.
Tour of Estonia finished on Saturday with a traditional Tartu GP (173 km), where cyclists took the 9,6 km lap 18 times. A stage with a lot of aggressive riding and breakaways, reached its peak 2 laps before the finish. That’s when 5 men got away from the leading group which consisted 16 cyclists. Couple of attacks followed it and on the final straight there were only two men left: Mihkel Räim (Estonia, Israel Cycling Academy) and Michal Podlaski (Poland, Wibatech Merx 7R). On the final meters Räim beat Podlaski quite easily.
Räim also won the general classification. His club Israel Cycling Academy clean swept this year’s Tour of Estonia as they won all the stages and got all three podium places in the GC.
Estonian Cycling Weekend will end tomorrow with the 38th Tartu Rattaralli, where nearly 4000 participants are expected to take part in. More info: www.tartumaraton.ee |
